Foskor was first founded as a means of preventing South Africa's dependence on imported phosphate rock - a vital raw material for the fertiliser industry and, hence, for the agricultural sector. Today, Foskor produces a large percentage of the fertilisers and fertiliser ingredients used by the South African agricultural industry and the effectiveness of the organisation has also resulted in an extensive export network for these products.
