Community Health and Well-Being

Foskor actively participates in the communities where it operates and is visibly a socially responsible corporate citizen. Foskor provides the following support of various charities:

 

  • Phelang: HIV/AIDS programme. This is partnership agreement with Phalaborwa mining to fund the HIV/AIDS programmes in the local communities hosted at the Phelang centre, the nursing team distributes free condoms, ARV's and nutritional supplements to the Ba-Phalaborwa community. The centre also offers counselling and training to home-based caregivers in need of a support group.
  • Foskor Community Centre: business centre in Namakgale. Founded more than 20 years ago, the centre currently houses 13 Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs), including catering concerns, a vehicle spares shop, hairdressers, and sewing, upholstery and tailoring businesses. The anchor tenant is the Department of Roads and Transport. Foskor subsidises the SMMEs' rentals so that they can render affordable vital services to the Ba-Phalaborwa residents and in the process growing their own businesses.
  • Huis Maroela: shelter for abused women. Foskor leases a four-bedroom house at R1 per annum to the Women's Federation in Phalaborwa.
  • Amakhumbuza HIV/Aids Centre: The centre is situated at Matshana reserve Empangeni helps HIV/ Aids infected community and it operates as wing for counselling, testing, distribute and monitor treatment as well as Home based care services to the surrounding community. Foskor works together with the centre in terms of providing the administrative materials, files, computers etc. The caregivers from this centre do home based care, and also looking after those who needs support groups.
  • House of Shalom: Foskor places a high priority on supporting orphans and vulnerable children. Social support assists the development of our communities that have been affected by socio economic problems. It aims to improve communities through basic education, supporting those infected with or affected by illness. Foskor supports children within communities who by no fault of their own require assistance with day care, education and basic household provisions. Social support projects are driven by Foskor through partnerships with government department and private sector to accelerate development in our communities. Foskor works together with the House of Shalom Centre for orphans.
